Great read. I think US history has moved so fast (modernity is like that) it is easy to forget we have our own mythologically significant *real* glorious ages whose artifacts survive to this day. I also like that it ended on an emotionally resonant note that brings us back to the present: "Do you see? The past is still here with us and it deserves some appreciation, even if it is no longer resplendent as it once was"
